Research has recently showed that vegan and flexitarian diets are rising in popularity and consumers are even becoming increasingly aware of the environmental footprint of the food they eat. This encouraged Ice cream makers in various regions around the world to respond. Research carried out by Mintel, a food and drink expert at research company, showed that Denmark, for example, has seen a 700% rise in plant-based ice cream launches over the last five years, followed by 200% in Vietnam and a near 130% rise in Australia. Meanwhile, 17% of new plant-based ice cream launches in 2020 were in the US
Torben Vilsgaard, Ice Cream Academy Manager at Tetra Pak says that the company possesses the expertise to assist producers to optimise their operations and grow their ice cream business and incorporate the trends identified internationally. The global ice cream market is expected to hit $75bn by 2024 and to maintain this growth afterwards. He added, “With decades of ice cream experience in our international operations, we have the equipment and knowhow to drive success in this food sector”
From sorbets to pea-protein and oats to almonds and soybean, ice cream makers are using a range of different alternatives to milk depending on the functional requirements they have. Globally plant-based ice creams have doubled their share of the market over the last five years. Pea-protein and coconut milk are leading the way, but data from Mintel shows that last year oat-based ice cream launches also doubled. Yet, consumers still expect that these alternatives tick the traditional ice cream boxes of indulgent, rich, creamy and delicious
The Egyptian ice cream market is growing at fairly stable rates due to accelerating urbanisation and shifting consumer lifestyles. Total revenues for ice cream exceeded EGP 5 billion (US$360 million) in 2021. This represents a total of 52 million kilograms consumed in 2021
