Lafarge Egypt Awards 3 Journalists at the Writing Contest & Launches New Carbon Neutral Product

Cairo – May 2022: Seeking to reinforce environmental sustainability, Lafarge Egypt, a member of Holcim Group, announced the launch of Shatbna product.  The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of Lafarge Egypt’s one-month training program to journalists titled, “Human Rights in the Work Environment”. During the ceremony, the company awarded three journalists in its “Article-Writing Contest” on the topics highlighted during the program.


Engineer Ahmed Abdo, Commercial and Marketing Director at Lafarge Egypt, highlighted the importance of the Shatbna new product to the local market, stating: “Shatbna masonry cement is an exclusive product specific for finishing solutions which fits all of our customers’ needs & respects environment needs. . Shatbna offers a 40% lower carbon footprint than conventional cement in Egypt with no compromise on performance. It is a great milestone in a long journey where Lafarge Egypt is committed to a net zero future for a better world for us and our children. As the leader in sustainable and innovative solutions, we are at the forefront of decarbonizing our sector, making low carbon construction a reality and building progress for people and the Planet.”

Lafarge Egypt is proud to introduce the new product as the perfect solution for finishing works, which forms around 30% of the local market consumption of cement.”



Lafarge Egypt has previously conducted a one-month  training program  on human rights in the work environment, touching on different topics; health and safety standards, rights related to environmental work conditions, human rights and good governance, women’s rights in the work environment, and child labor. The training sessions were delivered by a number of hands-on professionals who voluntarily participated at Lafarge Egypt’s event, including: Lawyer/ Marwa Al-Khodari, partner in ALC Alieldean Weshahi & Partners, Dr. Nihal El-Magharbel, member of Housing, Local Administration and Transport Committee in the Egyptian Senate; in addition to Lawyer Nihad Abu al-Qumsan, human rights lawyer, President of the Egyptian Center for Women's Rights, and member of the National Council for Human Rights. Furthermore, Dr. Abdel Moneim Saeed, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper, has assessed the writing submissions of the participants in the writing contest.


Solomon Baumgartner Aviles, CEO and Chairman of Lafarge Egypt, attended the event and handed the awards to the winners during the event, where he expressed his gratitude to the attendees who joined Lafarge Egypt to celebrate its unceasing efforts towards sustainability.
