Egypt to host 13th Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference in October

Under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic of Egypt; the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives is organizing the Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference in its 13th session.

The conference will be held for the first time in Egypt from October 17th to October 20th, 2022. The conference is “Growing Africa Together" themed, where African ministers and senior leaders of cooperatives are expected to attend, headed by the President of the International Cooperative Alliance, the President of the African Cooperative Alliance, and the President of International Housing Cooperatives.

During the opening session of the conference, Egypt will be selected to lead the Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference for the next three years. This conference coincides with the Fourth International Conference on Cooperative Housing ICCH’22 and the first training conference to qualify African leadership talents in the field of cooperative housing. Many housing cooperatives in African countries will participate in the conference, under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development.

“Organizing this conference comes in conjunction with the directions of the political leadership to boost cooperation with our African allies in all fields,” Dr. Assem Al-Jazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, explained. “This comes as a result of Egypt being the official host of the permanent headquarters of the African Organization for Housing Cooperatives in Cairo, in addition to accommodating the regional office of the International Cooperative Alliance for the North Africa region in Cairo.” Al-Jazzar added.

“The Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference, which is being held under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will witness the transition of the presidency of the Africa Ministerial Cooperative Council from Nigeria to Egypt for the next 3 years.” said Dr. Hossam El-Din Mustafa Rizk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives.

The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities is scheduled to assume that position as an appreciation of the leadership achieved by the Egyptian Housing Cooperatives in the African continent.

“Prior to the conference, on October 15-16, a meeting of the boards of directors of the International Cooperative Alliance, the African Cooperative Alliance, and International Housing Cooperatives will be held at the conference headquarters in the Administrative Capital,” the president of the authority added. “In light of the conference, an exhibition accompanying the events will be organized, containing many pavilions displaying a number of the council's projects in different governorates, and many successful cooperatives in Egypt along with other participating countries and companies.”

“The conference aims to further explore communication with cooperative organizations at both the regional and international levels and successfully interact with sister African countries. The conference’s purpose is to exchange cooperative experiences between the participating countries and sign cooperation protocols between Egypt and other African countries participating in the conference in the fields of training.”

“The conference is an opportunity to demonstrate the modern Egyptian urban experience by reviewing new projects in the fields of housing and cooperatives. The conference will also include visits to the participating delegations in the Egyptian national projects in the Administrative Capital, New Alamein City and some cooperative housing projects in Egypt,” he concluded.

In the opening session of the conference, the best six cooperative projects in the continent for 2022 will be honored, representing all regions, North, East, West, South, and Central Africa. During the conference sessions, the role of the Egyptian companies operating in the Egyptian and African markets will be reviewed in terms of the appropriate measures used for marketing Egyptian products, and how to achieve integration and cooperation between the various cooperative activities among the participating countries.

Counselor Sherif Hammouda, Chairman and Managing Director of GV Developments, and the official sponsor of the conference said: “ Sponsoring this important event is something I am very proud of and the Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference is a great opportunity to demonstrate the efforts of the Egyptian state in the field of cooperatives.” He added, “GV Developments strives to cooperate with all the various figures and authorities in the country to achieve the urban development plans in Egypt, and organizing this conference comes in line with being part of the efforts made by the Egyptian state to activate the role of cooperatives in various fields.”
