Economic Dynamics:
Globally, economic activity has moderated in 3Q26, driven by escalating and broadening geopolitical volatility, elevated inflation especially in energy & food and supply chain disruptions. Economic growth is fracturing, driven by an AI and trade-advantaged surge in select economies while others slowdown under import costs, weak demand, and geopolitical strain. This has prompted key developed central banks to raise rates with further upside in order to anchor inflation. Overall, the global outlook remains uncertain and susceptible to risks stemming from prolonged geopolitical tensions, tighter financial conditions, and renewed supply chain disruptions.
Domestically, despite the escalating regional conflict, the economy is resilient with growth moderating at a slower pace. The external position is strong on the back of record tourism and remittances, FDI flows/Multilateral Financing and a liquid FX market with record reserves. Inflation momentum has weakened despite higher energy deficit cushioned by low/declining food inflation. The CBE kept the policy rates unchanged adopting a prudent and tight monetary stance in order to support sustainable growth, anchor the upside risk on inflation through resurgence of regional hostilities and prolonged higher energy prices.
