The Deputy Minister of Housing meets the Swedish Minister of Trade and the Swedish Ambassador to Cairo to discuss joint cooperation between the two sides, especially in the field of sustainable smart transport in new cities
Eng. Khaled Abbas, Deputy Minister of Housing for National Projects, Mrs. Anna Halberg, Swedish Minister of Trade, Ambassador Hakan Imsjord, Swedish Ambassador to Cairo, and the accompanying delegation met to discuss joint cooperation between the two sides, especially in the field of sustainable smart transport in new cities, in the presence of Ministry of Housing officials.
Engineer Khaled Abbas explained that the Ministry of Housing, in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), is working to strengthen the planning, implementation and management of sustainable urban development in the Greater Cairo region for priority projects from the New Urban Communities Authority. One of the outputs of the project is the planning and design of the BRT high-speed bus transport project for the service of new cities and the linking of them to the urban area of Greater Cairo, especially with subway stations, Monorail, electric train and mass public transport Project designs have been completed and all release documents are being finalized.
According to the Deputy Minister of Housing for National Projects, a grant agreement has been prepared between the Swedish International Fund for Development Finance (SFD) and the Ministry of Housing to finance the cost of consultancy services to carry out studies on the implementation of a bus rapid bus system in Cairo. The study also includes the establishment of an integrated and intelligent public transport system for the conversion strategy of the bus mass transit hub between Giza Governorate and 6 October.
